Start-ups in the liberal professions in Germany and its Regions in 2014

Based on statistical data provided by tax authorities, the number of business start-ups in the liberal professions has been calculated. In 2014, approx. 81,100 start-ups have been recorded in the liberal professions. The number of start-ups in the liberal professions has increased in the years 2012 to 2014, while the number of start-ups in the branches of commerce and industry has declined.

The commercial start-up activity in the service sector

Using IfM Bonn’s business start-up statistics (person related data) this paper analyzes the commercial start-up activities (excluding liberal professions) in the service sector. In 2013 almost three quarters of all business start-ups took place in the service sector, which was therefore fewer than in 1998.
