Retention of apprentices – analyses by enterprise size

This study investigates the current and future importance of vocational training to satisfy demand for professionals and whether small and medium-sized establishments experienced difficulties keeping successful apprentices as professionals. Hence, the paper focuses on the transition of apprentices into gainful employment. The results show that large establishments were most successful covering their demand for skilled employees by the retention of apprentices. Especially small and medium-sized establishments should check why training contracts end early. This may be a starting point to increase the number of potential professionals in the future.
